Alternative forms

Description

An alternativeForms element, when present, is a direct child of the text element. Its item children enumerate the different orthographic forms corresponding to the current entry.

XML structure

alternativeForms <!ELEMENT alternativeForms (item)*> <!ELEMENT item (#PCDATA)> <!ATTLIST item sense CDATA #IMPLIED qualifier CDATA #IMPLIED wikisaurus (0|1) #IMPLIED type (antonym|coordinate|derived|holonym|hypernym|idiomatic-synonym|meronym |near-antonym|near-synonym|pseudo-synonym|related|synonym|troponym) #IMPLIED>

A qualifier may give a diatopic or diachronic information, as in the example below. It may also be a diafrequential indication (e.g. rare, very rare, ...), a usage note (e.g. in attributive use), a type of variant (initialism, abbreviation, eye dialect, ...), etc.
Other attributes (sense, type and wikisaurus) are not used in alternative forms' items.

The example below illustrates the alternative forms of encyclopedia.
